The Cypress Avenue runs through the centre of Craigtoun Country Park with a stone centre piece in the middle.

Conifer with evergreen short, scale-like leaves
Native to California, grown extensively in southwest Oregon
Introduced to the UK in 1854
Named after Scottish nurseryman and plant collector, Charles Lawson (1795 - 1873)
Not to be confused with Leyland Cypress (x Cuprocyparis leylandii)
Provides valuable shelter for nesting birds
Timber is susceptible to rot so is not suited to outdoor use.
Students now run the Craigtoun Cafe on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
