The Friends of Craigtoun was formed in 2012 with the aim of securing the future of Craigtoun Country Park as an amenity for the people of St Andrews, Fife and visitors to the area.
Following lengthy discussions with Fife Council it was agreed that the Friends should take over the running of all facilities in the park and, in a partnership arrangement with the Council, would maintain the grounds and assist with grants/investment.
Over the past 14 years the park has flourished under the governance of the Friends of Craigtoun and has regained its standing as one of the top visitor attractions in Fife. With the help of council grants and external grants/donations, further investment has been made in the park including the complete re-furbishment of the Rio Grande Miniature Railway and the installation of a free-to-use trim trail with zip wires and swings. Many measures have been taken to make Craigtoun as fully accessible as possible with the installation of several pieces of all-inclusive play equipment, a state-of-the-art Changing Places facility and a tarmacked pathway leading from the car park to the Cafe and Ticket Office, both of which are accessible for wheelchair users.
