We are delighted that Craigtoun Country Park was selected as one of 4 Fife parks to be gifted 6 Sakura cherry trees by the Japanese Embassy as part of the Sakura Cherry Tree Project.  These beautiful blossom trees are a symbol of friendship, renewal, and hope and were planted to help expand Fife’s urban tree canopy, creating greener, healthier places for us all.

The trees were planted on Tuesday 25th November with the help of representatives from Fife Climate Forest.  One tree each was planted by the Friends of Craigtoun and The Sunshine Kitchen with the remaining 4 trees planted by pupils from Madras College, who also participated in the invitation to compose Haikus to commemorate the event.  We now have a collection of inspired pieces beautifully engraved into wooden leaves, which will be displayed at Craigtoun in due course. 

The sense of occasion was further enhanced with music from a piper from Madras College and the Sunshine Kitchen’s very own Japanese violin player, Kayo.  The groups were all invited to the Craigtoun Café afterwards to enjoy some green tea and sushi, which was specially prepared by Michael, and served with the help of his Tuesday Hospitality Students.
