Cafe & Kitchen Project Gets Underway

The Craigtoun Country Park Cafe & Kitchen hospitality project is now well underway. The first cohort consists of 18 students, some of whom attend on a Tuesday and some on a Thursday.

Last week they all took part in an induction day, which included an introduction to the cafe and kitchen, where they made coffees, wrapped cutlery and used the dishwasher. They all successfully completed their H&S and Food Hygiene course, ready to start their training the following week.

This week saw the students take over the Craigtoun Cafe on Tuesday and Thursday from 10 am until 2.30 pm, where they served their special menu that includes teas and coffees, hot rolls, soup, cheese scones, thick cut sandwiches and salads. This arrangement will continue over next 8 weeks as they learn on the job the skills required to work in the hospitality industry both behind the scenes in the kitchen and front of house.

The Craigtoun Cafe is open to the public at these times so do come along to show your support for these young people - we promise you will not be disappointed!

You can read more about this project and the funders involved on our January blog post.
