English Oak

Our English Oak is located on the inside of the railway track, opposite the picnic benches by the Snack Shack and Bouncy Castles.

  • Deciduous tree (loses its leaves in winter)

  • Also known as common oak

  • Can live for over 1000 years

  • Grows up to 38m in height

  • Has an attractive, wide crown, with yellow catkins in spring and acorns in the autumn

  • Recognisable by its deeply lobed leaves on short stalks

  • Home to a vast number of insects - an important food source for birds

  • Plays a major role in biodiversity

Oak is a durable hardwood and was important for shipbuilding. It is used today for flooring, wine barrels and furniture.
